Michael J. Meyer
Michael J. Meyer was an adjunct Professor of English at DePaul University in Chicago (now retired). His PhD was awarded by Loyola University Chicago in 1985 with a dissertation that focused on moral ambiguity in Steinbeck. The current Steinbeck bibliographer, Meyer has published widely in journals and collections and most recently served as the co-editor of A John Steinbeck Encyclopaedia (Greenwood 2006). He has edited 7 books in Rodopi Press’s Perspectives in Modern Literature Series and presently is the senior editor for its Dialogue Series which pairs experienced scholars with emerging scholars in discussions of controversial issues in canonical texts. His current work includes a two volume set entitled The Grapes of Wrath: A Re-Consideration in Rodopi’s Dialogue series and The Essential Criticism of Of Mice and Men for Scarecrow Press (2009). Upcoming projects include a book on East of Eden for it 60th anniversary in 2012 and a collection of essays on To Kill A Mockingbird for its 50th anniversary in 2010. Recently, he accepted the offer of Palgrave Macmillan to produce their Steinbeck volume on The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men which will appear in 2011. In the past, he has served as a member of the editorial board of The Steinbeck Quarterly (1990-1993) and as the vice president of The New John Steinbeck Society of America (2002-2005). In addition to his Steinbeck work, he has published articles on Harriet Beecher Stowe, Robert Penn Warren, Stephen King, Arthur Miller, and Alice Walker and is currently on the editorial Board of The Steinbeck Review where he serves as Bibliographer.
