Thomas J. Farrell
Thomas J. Farrell, a professor of writing studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth, is the author of Walter Ong's Contributions to Cultural Studies: The Phenomenology of the Word and I-Thou Communication (Cresskill, New Jersey: Hampton Press, 2000).
With Paul A. Soukup, S.J., of Santa Clara University in California, Professor Farrell is the senior co-editor of and contributor to An Ong Reader: Challenges for Further Inquiry (Hampton Press, 2002). In addition, Farrell and Soukup have co-edited four other collections of Ong's essays published under the general title Faith and Contexts (Atlanta, Georgia: Scholars Press, 1992a, 1992b, 1995, 1999; now distributed by Rowman & Littlefield). Farrell contributed introductory essays to the 1992a, 1995, and 1999 volumes.
Farrell has also contributed essays to four different collections of essays about Ong's thought (1987, 1991, 1998, and forthcoming), and published numerous journal articles regarding Ong's thought.
