Padraig Kirwan
I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, Goldsmiths. My primary research interest is contemporary Native American writing and the tribal literatures of the Americas. I am also interested in Transatlantic Studies, Border Studies and fictional engagements with extra-textual questions surrounding sovereignty and nationalism in the present moment. In my current role, I convene a number of undergraduate courses, including 'Further Studies in American Literature and Culture' (Second Year) and 'Inventing the Nation' (Second Year) as well as teaching and lecturing on courses such as 'Introduction to American Literature and Culture,' 'Modern American Fiction,' and 'Explorations in Literature.' I have supervised doctroral students in their examination of various aspects of Native American fiction, the African novel, contemporary American fiction, postcolonial literature and theory, and American immigrant writing (principally Italian-American and Irish-American fiction). I also supervised an MRes student who examined the subject of diaspora in contemporary Indian and American fiction, and have supervised 24 MA dissertations to date.
