Gerd Bayer
Gerd Bayer received his Ph.D. in English from Erlangen University, Germany, where he returned in 2005 to a tenured position after teaching at the University of Toronto, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. His research focuses on early modern prose fiction, the postmodern novel, ecocriticism, postcolonial literature, cinema, Holocaust studies, and pop culture. He has published journal articles and book chapters in these academic fields, as well as a book (in German) on John Fowles and nature (2004), edited Mediating Germany: Popular Culture Between Tradition and Innovation (2006), the Europe volume of The World Encyclopedia of Popular Culture (2007), and Heavy Metal Music in Britain (2009), and co-edited a volume (in German) on literature and holocaust (with Rudolf Freiburg; 2008) as well as Narrative Developments from Chaucer to Defoe (with Ebbe Klitgård; 2011). He currently works on a monograph about genre and Restoration prose fictions.
