Panagiotis Thanassas

Dr. Panagiotis Thanassas is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He studied Law in Athens and Philosophy in Tübingen, where he received his Ph.D. (1996) with a dissertation on Parmenides. He is Associate Professor for the History of Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens; he has also taught at the Universities of Tübingen, Heidelberg, Munich, Cyprus, and at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During the Summer Semester 2015 he was Visiting Professor at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universi­tät Munich, Lehrstuhl III für Antike Philosophie. He is a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has also received fellowships from the Evangelisches Studienwerk “Villigst”, from DAAD, from DFG, and from the Princeton University (Stanley J. Seeger Visiting Fellow, 2019).P. Thanassas has received grants from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), from the Evangelisches Studienwerk “Villigst”, from DAAD, from DFG, and he is a fellow of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

His research interests focus on Greek philosophy (Pre-Socratics, Plato, Aristotle)​​, German Idealism (Hegel), Heidegger and Philosophical Hermeneutics. His work has been published in journals such as Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie, Review of Metaphysics, Journal of Philosophical Research, Zeitschrift für Philosophische Forschung, Rhizai, Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie, Gnomon, Rhizomata, Philosophische Rundschau.

He is author of the books:
