Nader El-Bizri

Dr Nader El-Bizri is a Principal Lecturer (Reader) at the University of Lincoln, and a Chercheur Associé at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris (CNRS, UMR 7219). He lectured at the Department of History & Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge (1999-2010), and remains an Affiliated Research Scholar with that department. He held a Visiting Professorship at the University of Lincoln (2007-2010), and a Research Associate senior post at the Institute of Ismaili Studies, London (2002-2010). He was also a Lecturer at the University of Nottingham (2000-2002), and taught at Harvard University and the American University of Beirut. Dr El-Bizri is General Editor of the Oxford University Press Epistles of the Brethren of Purity series, Co-Editor of Islamic Philosophy and Occidental Phenomenology in Dialogue (Kluwer Academic publishers, and Springer), and the Editor (Islam section) of the Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Religions (Springer). He is an elected member of the Council of the Société Internationale d'Histoire des Sciences et des Philosophies Arabes et Islamiques (Secretariat, CNRS, Paris), and serves on several editorial boards, including the Cambridge University Press journal: Arabic Sciences and Philosophy. He published and lectured widely, and contributed to Arabic newspapers and BBC Radio/TV programmes. He also acted as Consultant to various institutions, including the Science Museum in London, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in Geneva, and the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in New York. His publications include The Phenomenological Quest between Avicenna and Heidegger (Binghamton, New York: Global Publications, SUNY at Binghamton, 2000) and The Ikhwān al-Safā’ and their Rasā’il (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2008).
