Yvonne Siddle

Dr Yvonne Siddle is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, University of Chester. She has taught undergraduate courses on Romantic, Victorian and Gothic literature and is currently teaching on the MA Nineteenth-Century Literature and Culture. Her main research interest lies in nineteenth-century representations of Ireland and Irishness. Arising out of an MA in Victorian Studies at Chester and beginning with examinations of Thomas Carlyle, Charles Kingsley, Elizabeth Gaskell and Rudyard Kipling, the focus came to rest on Anthony Trollope’s writing on Ireland. She completed a PhD thesis on ‘The Representation of Ireland and Irish Issues in Anthony Trollope’s Irish Fiction’ in 2005. Her chapter ‘Anthony Trollope’s representation of the Great Famine’ was published in Victoria’s Ireland?: Irishness and Britishness, 1837-1901 (Four Courts Press, 2004), and she has presented numerous papers on Trollope’s representation of religion, women, rural life and politics in Ireland.
