Rick M. Newton

Rick M. Newton is Professor Emeritus of Classical Studies at Kent State University (Ohio). In addition to articles on Homer, Sophocles, and Euripides in various classical journals and books (Greek, Roman and Byzantine Studies; Classical Journal; Classical and Modern Literature; College Literature; Syllecta Classica; Kostas Myrsiades, ed., Approaches to Teaching Homer's Iliad and Odyssey [Modern Language Association 1987]; Robert J. Rabel, ed., Approaches to Homer: Ancient and Modern [Classical Press of Wales 2005]), he has published many translations of Yannis Ritsos' poems, including 3 x 111 Tristichs (Pella Press 1990), the "Epitaphios" (Journal of the Hellenic Diaspora 13 [1986] 5-51), and "The Annihilation of Melos" (Charioteer 29/30 [1987-88]168-193). He has also written essays on Ritsos for The Journal of Modern Hellenism (2000-2001; 2001-2002). In 2002 he received the Elizabeth Constantinides Translation Prize from the Modern Greek Studies Association of the United States and Canada.
