Mark Newman
Mark Newman is Reader in History at the University of Edinburgh. He is the author of Getting Right with God: Southern Baptists and Desegregation, 1945-1995 (Tuscaloosa and London: University of Alabama Press, 2001), winner of the Lillian Smith Book Award for nonfiction from the Southern Regional Council, the American Studies Network Book Prize from the European Association for American Studies, and the Anne B. and James B. McMillan Prize from the University of Alabama Press, Divine Agitators: The Delta Ministry and Civil Rights in Mississippi (Athens and London: University of Georgia Press, 2004), and The Civil Rights Movement (Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press, 2004). He is also co-editor with Suzanne W Jones of Poverty and Progress in the US South since 1920 (Amsterdam: VU University Press, 2006) and has written more than twenty articles and essays in journals and edited collections.
