Andrés Fabián Henao Castro
I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston. I received my PhD and M.A. in political science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and my M.A. in philosophy and B.A. in political science at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. My area of specialization is the relationship between ancient and contemporary political theory with an emphasis on democratic practices and political action. I am currently working on a book project on the theoretical reception of Sophocles’ tragedy Antigone , and parallel research projects on contemporary understandings of Plato’s allegories and the relationship between ancient political textiles and current feminist theory. I have published “Antigone claimed: ‘I am a Stranger!’ Political Theory and the Figure of the Stranger,” in Hypatia: ‘Crossing Borders,’ 2013 and “Can the Subaltern Smile? Oedipus Without Oedipus,” forthcoming in the Journal Contemporary Political Theory . I am also a columnist for the on-line journal of political analysis Palabras al Margen (Words at the Margins).
