Susan Lloyd
I am an independent scholar, researching the works and life of Edmond Rostand. My Genge Press was set up to publish translations or annotated editions of his work. I have published a comprehensive literary biography of Rostand: The Man who was Cyrano, a Life of Edmond Rostand, Creator of 'Cyrano de Bergerac ' (Indiana, USA, 2002, Minehead UK, 2007).
University degrees: Bristol University, 1961-4, B A Honours in French with Latin subsidiary: 2A; University of East Anglia: MPhil in French Literature for my thesis about Edmond Rostand. As there was no English biography of Rostand, I began to research his life and work in order to write one. It was published in the USA in 2002 and in the UK by my own Genge Press, set up to publish this and later Rostand-related titles: translations of three plays and an annotated edition of his Chantecler'.
Between my first degree and my second, I had trained as a secondary teacher and taught in Birmingham and Uganda. After gaining my MPhil I edited a major new edition of Roget's Thesaurus for Longman published in 1982, and prepared an abridged edition for Penguin Books (1985). More lexicographical work followed for various publishers. From 1994 to 2000, my husband and I lived at International School Moshi, Tanzania, where I ran the library and commenced writing The Man who was Cyrano. Since 2000 we have lived in Minehead, Somerset.
