Francesca Savoia

Francesca Savoia is Professor of Italian at the University of Pittsburgh. Her areas of research and personal interest are: 17th, 18th and early 19th-c. Italian literature and cultural History, Theater and Opera. The publication of her most recent work – an annotated edition of Giuseppe Baretti’s correspondence with an early mentor (1741-1745) – is due shortly («Datemi carta, penna, e calamaio»: Lettere di Giuseppe Baretti a Vittore Vettori, a cura di Francesca Savoia, Verona: QuiEdit, 2019). In previous years she has published critical editions of unknown poems and letters by Baretti and a monographic study on the same author («Nel bitume, nel fuoco, e nell’obblìo»: poesie inedite, Roma, ARACNE, 2017; Il Baretti vostro, Verona: QuiEdit, 2013; Fra letterati e galantuomini, Firenze: SEF, 2010) and edited a volume of essays on Italian letter writing (“Favellar ai lontani”: Tipologie epistolari fra Sette e Ottocento Firenze, Cesati Editore, 2015). She is also the author of a critical edition of a seventeenth-century Commedia dell’Arte play (Silvio Fiorillo’s 1624 La cortesia di Leone e Ruggero con la morte di Rodomonte, Lucca: Pacini Fazzi, 1997), a book on eighteenth-century Italian opera libretti (La cantante e l’impresario e altri metamelodrammi, Genova: Costa & Nolan, 1988) and numerous articles on mostly theater-related seventeenth and eighteenth-century topics.
