Bettina Burger

Bettina Burger completed her B.A. degree in English Studies and History at Heidelberg University in 2012. In 2013, she graduated with an MSc degree in the course “Literature and Society: Enlightenment, Romanticism and Victorian Literature” from the University of Edinburgh. Her thesis focused on 19th-century children’s literature and morality. She also gained an M.A. in Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at Bonn University in 2016, where she was also a member of the Bonn Group for Eighteenth Century Studies. Currently, Bettina Burger teaches Anglophone Literatures at Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf, where she is also working on her PhD thesis on Anglophone Fantasy Literatures.

She has held various talks at international conferences in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Düsseldorf, including topics such as "Conversing with the Past - Jackie Kay’s Poetry at the Brontë Parsonage Museum" or "A Most Accurate Way of Describing Reality – Breaking Boundaries in Nnedi Okorafor’s Organic Fantasy Tales".

Her research interests include postcolonial and global literature, fantasy literature and science fiction, children’s literature, Scottish literature, and the 18th century.
