Eloisa Morra

Eloisa Morra is assistant professor of Italian Studies and Visual Culture at the University of Toronto. She earned a PhD in Romance languages and Literatures from Harvard University and a BA and MA from the Scuola Normale Superiore. Her monograph Un allegro fischiettare nelle tenebre. Ritratto di Toti Scialoja (Macerata, Quodlibet: 2014) was among the winners of the Edinburgh Gadda Prize 2015. Eloisa edited three volumes: Building the Canon through the Classics(Leiden/Boston, Brill: 2019), Paesaggi di parole. Toti Scialoja e i linguaggi dell’arte(Rome, Carocci: 2019) and Figure dell’artista (Elephant&Castle, Bergamo: 2021, with G. Raccis). Her work has been supported by the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, the Centre for Italian Modern Art, the Gladys G. Krieble Delmas Foundation, the Giorgio Cini Foundation, among others. At Harvard Eloisa co-curated a research exhibition at Pusey Library and several projects at the Harvard Art Museums and the Carpenter Centre of Visual Arts. She published literary translations and is completing a monograph on visual hermeneutics in 20th-century Italian literature and a literary reportage.
