Dawn Williams

PhD Candidate, in Welsh Writing in English. My thesis is focused on the nineteenth century female-led literary response to the Blue Books, analysing the works of Amy Dillwyn, Allen Raine, Anne Beale and more. 

My Masters thesis, titled 'She has had her day': Discarding the myth of the Welsh Mam in the twentieth-century Literatures of Wales', analysed texts by Kate Roberts, Saunders Lewis (Monica), Rhys Davies, Jane Edwards and Rachel Tresize, arguing that the ideal Welsh Mam never truly existed in twentieth-century literature in Wales, while exploring the different versions of motherhood presented by the various authors. 

I have twice presented at the Association of Welsh Writing in English conference, in 2018 and 2019. I was runner-up of Planet Magazine's Young Writers Competition 2019, having written about Jane Edwards' portrayal of abortion and contraception in her novels in conjunction with the argument for/against female reproductive rights in America and Northern Ireland.
