Dana Aicha Shaaban
Dana Aicha Shaaban is an Assistant Professor of Victorian Literature at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. Her research interests include British literature of the long nineteenth century, children's literature of the Victorian era, global literatures, and postcolonial literatures. Shaaban's book project, Shahrazad's Legacies: Golden Age Children's Literature and The Arabian Nights, dismantles the British Empire's center/periphery model and instead illuminates the centrality of The Arabian Nights to Victorian Golden Age children's literature. Joining the movement of “Undisciplining” Victorian studies, Shaaban's project draws attention to the many important and direct influences the Arab world had upon the canon. She published a syllabus and essay, “The Muslim ‘Other' in Nineteenth-Century British Literature,” as part of the digital humanities project Undisciplining the Victorian Classroom, to amplify nineteenth-century voices from the Middle East and Muslim nations who have not received much recognition in British literature courses, especially in US classrooms.
