Anna McCullough

Anna holds a PhD in English Literature from St Andrews, where she wrote a thesis entitled 'Evolutionary Regression in Victorian Children's Literature'. This interdisciplinary project examined how Victorian children's writers portray unusual evolutionary dynamics, such as nonlinearity and regression. Through a wide-ranging analysis of children's literature and science writing, this thesis broadened scholarly understanding of how children’s authors interpreted scientific discoveries and contributed new ideas to the development of modern evolutionary theory.

She is now in the early stages of a second project on anthropological ideas in late-Victorian popular fiction, focusing on the concept of cultural survivals. Her work has been published in the Journal of Victorian Culture, and she has taught at the University of St Andrews and Jain University.
