Her work for adults includes a futuristic thriller, a literary biography, essays, lectures, and a substantial amount of journalism; while for children she has written picture books, chapter books, a semi-autobiographical novel, and four young adult fantasies, apart from the
Dark Is Risingsequence itself. A Briton who has lived in the United States almost all her adult life, she is acknowledged on both sides of the Atlantic as a major fantasy writer.
