Ernesto Sábato is one of the most acclaimed Argentinean writers, essayists, scientists, painters and intellectuals; it could even be argued that he is one of the great literary figures of the 20th century. His philosophical, psychological and political essays earned him a place in the intellectual elite of existential writers, beside Jean Paul Sartre and Albert Camus.
Sábato, was born on 24 June, 1911 in Rojas, a little town in the province of Buenos Aires, to a well to do family of Italian immigrants who had eleven children and were the owners of a village flour mill.
