Andrzej Stasiuk is one of the best known and most prolific Polish writers of the last two decades. His texts, as well as his activity as a publisher, are strongly rooted in his Central European identity. Stasiuk is fascinated with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe as well as the Balkans, which are an endless source of inspiration for his travel writing and reportage. Not only does he depict “provincial” Europe, he writes about provinciality in general: the slow life in small towns, the figures considered as marginal by society, forgotten localities, decaying buildings, the time that stands still.
