Lisa Jarnot was born in Buffalo, New York on November 26, 1967. From 1986-1989, she attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she studied with poets Robert Creeley and John Clarke and edited
No Trees, a small literary magazine. In the spring of 1989, Jarnot dropped out of school and lived until 1992 in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she edited
Troubled Surfer, another small journal. In 1994, she received her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Brown University and since then has lived in the New York City area, where she taught at Long Island University and Brooklyn College.
