Rigoberto González is an award-winning Chicano poet, writer of fiction and nonfiction, children’s book author, literary critic, and professor of creative writing.
The eldest of two sons born to Rigoberto González Carrillo and Avelina Alcalá, Rigoberto González, Jr. was born in Bakersfield, California on July 18, 1970. His parents were born in Mexico and raised in the small town of Zacapu, Michoacán; they were farm workers who had little more than a third-grade education. With only a work permit, his father migrated back and forth to the United States to labor in the agricultural fields of Southern California.
