Kerri Sakamoto, a Japanese-Canadian writer, was swept into literary prominence in 1998 with the publication of her first novel

, which addresses the trauma of the Japanese-Canadian WWII experience as well as its present-day repercussions. In her second novel,

One Hundred Million Hearts

(2003), Sakamoto addresses similar topics, but broadens her range to focus on the impact of the war on the intertwining lives of the Japanese and North Americans of Japanese descent. Known primarily as a novelist, Sakamoto is also an author of short stories, screenplays, essays on visual art, and an editor.
