Bruno Leoni was an eclectic Italian scholar: a jurist and philosopher with a deep interest in political science and economic theory, as well as the history of political ideas. His writings paved the way for innovative research in classical liberalism and legal theory.
Born in 1913 in Ancona, Leoni completed his studies in law and philosophy in Turin, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Gioele Solari. In his youth he was a Marxist, but he was disappointed by the third volume of Capital, in which he did not find the answers he needed to resolve the difficulties and obscure points of socialist doctrine. When he read Eugen Böhm-Bawerk and Vilfredo Pareto, he was converted to classical liberalism.
