Belén Gopegui is, to date, the author of eight novels, three short stories, a play and three screenplays, and was once hailed as “la mejor novelista de su generación” (“the best novelist of her generation”) by the celebrated writer Francisco Umbral (2001: 60). Born in Madrid in October 1963, she is the daughter of Luis Ruiz de Gopegui, the eminent physicist and former director of NASA in Spain, and Margarita Durán.
