Oksana Zabuzhko is a distinguished poet, novelist, essayist, literary critic and public intellectual, whose varied and prolific writings have made her one of the most important figures in the literary and intellectual landscape of contemporary Ukraine. Her works have been translated into several foreign languages, and she has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the Angelus Central European Literature Award (2013) and the Antonovych Prize (2009).

Zabuzhko was born in 1960 in Luts’k in western Ukraine, but moved to Kyiv while still a child. She studied philosophy at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where she was involved in student activist movements, participating in the Revolution on the Granite in 1990.
