Ricardo Piglia has been one of the preeminent figures in Argentine literature over the past fifty years, during which time he has achieved recognition as a novelist, short-story writer, literary critic, journal editor, university professor, and screenwriter. Piglia’s literary output is noted for its fusion of the strategies of literary modernism with disparate generic elements derived from crime fiction, autobiography, and historiography, as well as occasional forays into other genres such as epistolary narrative, cyberpunk, non-fiction, and, most recently, campus novel.
