Partial to describing himself as a hunter who wrote, Miguel Delibes (1920-2010) in fact pursued simultaneous careers in three professional spheres. Besides composing twenty novels – in addition to travelogues, essays and tracts on small-game hunting – he was a journalist and editor of
El Norte de Castilla(and declined the editorship of
El Paísin 1975). Initially, he took an academic path, having won, at the age of 25, a chair in mercantile law at the School of Commerce in Valladolid. His initial association with the city’s regional daily was as a caricaturist during the early 1940s, but he began to assume editorial responsibilities from the early 1950s.
