Ana Diosdado (1938-2015) was born in Buenos Aires, the city in which her Spanish actor parents, Enrique Diosdado and Isabel Gisbert, remained after performing there as the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) erupted. Because her parents divorced when Ana was a baby and her mother died shortly thereafter, she was reared by her father and his second wife, Amelia de la Torre, both of whom were stellar performers in the company of Margarita Xirgu, Lorca’s preferred actress and Ana’s godmother.
