Abdolhossein Sanatizade Kermani (1896-1973), Iranian writer and scholar, was born in the provincial city of Kerman. According to Hassan Kamshad, the author’s father, Haji Ali Akbar, had contact with the famous pan-Arabist and part time enemy of the ruling shah in Iran, Jalal od-Din Asadabadi (better known as Afghani), in Constantinople in 1907. This connection to an enemy of the ruling house made life very difficult for the author’s father when he was back in Iran again, and the entire family was therefore exposed to persecution and poverty (Kamshad, p. 48). Some of this cannot be true, as Afghani died in 1897.
