Joan Anim-Addo was born on the island of Grenada in 1948 and came to London in 1961 as a schoolgirl. She is one of the ‘Windrush children’ whose story formed part of the ‘60 Untold Stories’ exhibition (2015) (see http://60untold.co.uk/). Anim-Addo is an academic, poet, playwright, and publisher. She has published poetry, fiction, and drama alongside academic writing on Caribbean literature and is the first black female Professor of Caribbean Literature and Culture in the UK.

Based at Goldsmiths, University of London, Anim-Addo is also the Director of Goldsmiths’ Centre for Caribbean and Diaspora Studies (CCDS).
