Socialist, Communist, Anarchist. These words describe the German-Jewish poet, satirist, and political activist Erich Mühsam. It was his life’s goal to change the flawed socio-political institutions of the burgeoning capitalist society of his time to benefit the economically disadvantaged. According to Mühsam, the injustice of the existing social institutions should be rectified, and militaristic capitalism, which divides people into separate economic classes, should be converted into a peaceful communism that unites them (Simkin 1997).
