Often people refer to Kayes Ahmed, a noted Bangladeshi fiction writer, as one shrouded in mystery because he was extremely reticent about his personal affairs. The aura of mystery was further intensified by his suicide on June 14, 1992. Pondering over the sketchy details of his life, many have tried to explain this self-willed death, but no definite reason has been identified. After his death, there was a surge of interest in his writings and a fresh appreciation of his talent.

Kayes Ahmed was born on March 25, 1948 in Boro Tajpur in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. His father’s job brought the family to East Pakistan.
