Born in Vienna, Austria, to a Pakistani father and a Dutch mother, Sorayya Khan spent her childhood in Pakistan—mostly Islamabad—before settling in the United States, where she now lives with her family and writes (Khan, 2010, 90). Islamabad was home during Khan’s childhood. She traveled to the United States for college, including her undergraduate degree at Allegheny College and an advanced degree in International Studies from the University of Denver (Khan, 2015).

Her cross-continental upbringing situates Khan among so many Pakistani Anglophone writers, including Kamila Shamsie, Mohsin Hamid, Daniyal Mueenuddin, and H. M. Naqvi, whose work came to broad attention in the first decades of the twenty-first century. Markedly, though, Khan has expressed some discomfort with being
