Moni Mohsin (1963- ) is a British-Pakistani writer who gained international acclaim for her satirical column in
The Friday Timesthat she developed into three successful novels. She also authored two more novels:
The End of Innocence(2008) and
The Impeccable Integrity of Ruby R(2020). Her work is inextricably linked to Pakistan and exposes its social inequities and hidden hypocrisies.
Born in Lahore on 27 September 1963, Mohsin grew up at a time when public life in Pakistan was steered by a liberal, Western-educated elite. Religious tolerance was etched into the country’s social landscape to a far greater degree than it is today (Mohsin, “Lest We Forget”, 2013). The author’s family life and upbringing was, therefore, fuelled by liberal values.
