Moni Mohsin (1963- ) is a British-Pakistani writer who gained international acclaim for her satirical column in

The Friday Times

that she developed into three successful novels. She also authored two more novels:

The End of Innocence

(2008) and

The Impeccable Integrity of Ruby R

(2020). Her work is inextricably linked to Pakistan and exposes its social inequities and hidden hypocrisies.

Born in Lahore on 27 September 1963, Mohsin grew up at a time when public life in Pakistan was steered by a liberal, Western-educated elite. Religious tolerance was etched into the country’s social landscape to a far greater degree than it is today (Mohsin, “Lest We Forget”, 2013). The author’s family life and upbringing was, therefore, fuelled by liberal values.
