The Icelandic author and educator Jenna Jensdóttir was born in Lækur in Dýrafjörður in the Westfjords of Iceland on 24 August 1918. She was a twin, but the sisters were never close. Jenna lost her mother at an early age, went to work in Stykkishólmur and later Reykjavík. She studied to become a teacher but left her studies in 1942 to move to Akureyri and founded a school for small children along with her husband Hreiðar Stefánsson. She finished her studies in 1963 after having been a teacher for 20 years, mostly in Hreiðar’s school but also in the Barnaskóli Akureyrar and Gagnfræðaskóli Akureyrar.

From 1963 to 1984, Jenna taught in Langholtsskóli in Reykjavík where her husband Hreiðar was also a teacher. She also taught at the Námsflokkar Reykjavík and studied
