In 1930 three poems by a young man appeared in

Eimreiðin

, a literary magazine in Iceland. These were the first published poems of Snorri Hjartarson and they showcase themes that he continued to explore in his last book of poetry. Snorri was staying in Denmark when the poems were published, seeking treatment for an illness. Snorri’s parents were Hjörtur Snorrason and Ragnheiður Torfadóttir. He went to art school in Copenhagen and later moved to Oslo where he continued to study fine art until 1932. He then shifted his focus more towards writing. In 1934 his only novel was published, titled

Høit flyver ravnen
