Zoia Nikolaevna Nenliumkina (in translations also variously Romanized as Zoya/Soja Nenglumkina / Nenljumkina / Nenlumkena / Nenlumkina / Nenlumqina / Nenlyumkina) is the only professional poet writing in Naukan Yupik language, which was at the time of her birth in 1950 spoken in Nuvuqaq, the easternmost mainland settlement of Asia, better known by the Russianized Chukchi name of Naukan. Her known creative activity spans the time period from the second half of the 1970s through the 1990s. As she spent her literary career writing in one of the critically endangered languages of the Chukchi Peninsula (Chukotka), a discussion of her life and work must include an overview of the linguistic situation in Chukotka and its evolution in the twentieth century.
