Baldvin Einarsson was an editor and a law-student from Iceland who played an important role in the quest for Icelandic independence. He was born in 1801 on the farm Molastaðir in Skagafjörður in the north of Iceland, and his parents were farmers. When Baldvin was around twenty years old his father’s financial capacity started to grow, for, in addition to being a farmer, he was also an experienced fisherman and shipwright. Later he became the district administrative officer in Skagafjörður. Baldvin was a hard-working son, serving as a foreman on his father’s fishing boats and shark boat.
