With his comedy
Glide Time,first produced at Circa Theatre, Wellington, in August 1976, Roger Hall achieved a major break-through for New Zealand theatre, with a conclusive demonstration that a home-grown play could be excellent box-office. A number of his subsequent plays have been equally successful. Hall has gone on to write over 40 stage plays, and the scripts of several musicals, and of several radio and television plays, as well as of about 80 television and radio series episodes. His more popular comedies continue to get professional or amateur productions in his country. A couple of his plays, suitably adapted, have also had successful runs in Britain. He has won numerous awards and fellowships.
