Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, one of the most celebrated intellectuals of the Renaissance, is best known today for his so-called

Oration on the Dignity of Man

, a title that was chosen after the death of its author. Despite a very short life, he wrote numerous works on philosophy, theology, and poetry. He had wide-ranging interests that went well beyond the ancient and scholastic authoritative texts, including the Jewish, Aramaic and Arabic traditions, and he was one of the first scholars to use the Jewish Kabbalah to support Christian doctrines. Indeed, he had a life-long interest in reconciling philosophies and religions generally considered in opposition and synthetizing them in his concordism project.
