Frederick Pohl was born in 1919, and has had a long and celebrated career as a science fiction writer, agent and editor. His career falls into three main phases: in the 1950s, particularly in collaboration with Cyril M. Kornbluth (a fellow member of the SF writers group The Futurians, who also featured Isaac Asimov), Pohl was a prolific short-story and novel writer, whose stories have a particularly satirical and dystopian flavour, from

(1959). In the 1960s, he was editor of the US science fiction magazines

Galaxy
