John Murrell was born in 1945 in the United States and was one of the most successful playwrights in Canada, with a long record of plays continuously produced and continuously in print. He served as Playwright in Residence for both Alberta Theatre Projects (1975-76) and Theatre Calgary (1981-82), as Associate Director of the Stratford Festival of Canada (1977-78), as Head of the Banff School of Fine Arts (later the Banff Centre for the Arts) Playwrights Colony (1986-89), as Head of the Theatre Section of the Canada Council for the Arts (1988-92), and currently as Artistic Director/Executive Producer of Theatre Arts at the Banff Centre. He received the Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts, has been presented with the Alberta Order of Excellence, and has been appointed…
