Alan Moore has for over two decades stretched the boundaries and possibilities of the comic book form. The critical acclaim and public attention afforded his work during the 1980s and early 90s played a significant part in the growth and development of the so-called “graphic novel”. His creations tend to be dense, multilayered, incredibly literate, and presided over by a piercing and powerfully humane intelligence – it is no wonder then that his work has become such a favourite with academics and critics alike.
Moore was born in Northampton, England on November 18th, 1953. His family had lived in the town and its surrounding environs for generations: indeed, Moore has to date never lived anywhere else, and the place has often played a prominent part in his work. His parents were
