Abla Farhoud began to write for the theatre in the early 1980s. She wrote several plays and the first of her seven novels was published in 1998, while a number of plays and short stories remain unpublished. She has received several prizes, including the Prix Arletty de l’Universalité de la langue française (1993) for
La possession du prince. Her plays and novels address issues of exile, migrancy, war, death, loss, radical rupture in life’s course, solitude, mental illness, and are driven by the search for happiness, nurturing relations and memory that is rooted in real experience. Her works always contain at least one writer or artist for whom words, images and body movements offer the only possibility for making sense of human experiences dominated by violence and senselessness.…
