, 2003] was published nine years after the death of Nobel Prize laureate Elias Canetti (1905-94).  Johanna Canetti (born 1972), his daughter from his second marriage with Hera Buschor (1933-88), opted for the release of her father's diary about his years in London, “From England”.  The book of sketches and memoirs begins with episodes from Elias and Veza Canetti's experience as exiles from Austria and ends in the Thatcher era.  The title refers to the surprisingly active social life in London at the time of the German bomb raids from which the Canettis – like many other people who had the opportunity – retreated to the countryside.  Some of the vignettes provide insight into the bucolic setting where…
