The Austrian writer Marlene Streeruwitz published the novel

Nachwelt

in 1999 and was awarded the Hermann-Hesse-Prize for this fictional narrative in 2001. The book is a collage about the life and work of Anna Mahler, the real-life Jewish-Austrian sculptress and about the trip the protagonist, Margarethe Döblinger, took to collect information in order to write a biography about her subject. Anna Mahler was born in 1904 in Austria and passed away in 1988 in England. She was the daughter of the famous Gustav Mahler and the infamous Alma Mahler-Werfel, who is known as a muse, mistress, and wife of several important Austrian and German artists.
