Harry Potter and the Goblet of Firewas released simultaneously in UK and USA on Saturday 8th July 2000, by publishers Bloomsbury and Scholastic respectively. The initial print run was five million copies, a sharp contrast with the mere thousand copies of the first edition of the first book in the series,
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone(1997). A major launch event took place at London’s Kings Cross station, the station from which her fictional school train, Hogwarts Express, departs, with Rowling taking a steam train from Kings Cross on a promotional tour of England and Scotland.
