is a 2006 novel that explores the gradual radicalization of Ahmad Ashmawy Mulloy, an Arab-American teen living in the fictional town of New Prospect, New Jersey, near the state’s border with New York City. The novel explores Ahmad’s commitment to a brand of Islam preached by his imam, Shaikh Rashid, who coaches him to follow strictly the precepts of the Qur’an and to despise the materialism and godlessness of contemporary American society. Gradually indoctrinated in the merits of violent jihad, Ahmad agrees to carry out a terrorist attack on New York’s Lincoln Tunnel, only to be diverted at the last moment by his realization that Islam is a religion that also respects and celebrates life.
