is pointedly a novel written by a very young man. Just how young is open to debate; Disraeli claimed to have finished writing it prior to his twenty-first birthday (December 21, 1825), but virtually all critics have disputed this chronology, locating the bulk of its composition in the early months of 1826, just prior to the publication of its first part on April 22, 1826. Part I was published in two volumes, subdivided into four books. Part II, also comprising four books, was published February 23, 1827.
